Emma Raducanu will return to competitive tennis next week at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, with Sky Sports reporting that additional security measures will be in place following a troubling experience at her last tournament.
The former US Open champion was left visibly unsettled in Dubai after being approached by a man exhibiting what the WTA described as “fixated behaviour” ahead of her second-round defeat to Karolina Muchova.
During the match, Raducanu appeared distressed and briefly sought cover behind the umpire’s chair upon spotting the individual in the stands.
Despite the unsettling encounter, the 22-year-old chose not to press charges after the man was detained, though he has since been banned from future events.
After considering a longer break, Raducanu has decided to stick to her schedule and compete in Indian Wells, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the calendar.
The BNP Paribas Open will take place from March 5 to March 16.
