Emma Raducanu’s endorsements are at risk unless the British tennis star can rediscover her winning touch, a sports finance expert has warned.
Raducanu burst on to the scene in spectacular style after she won the 2021 U.S. Open title. Fame and fortune soon followed after her Flushing Meadows exertions.
Aged just 19 at the time, Raducanu soon caught the attention of a number of high-profile brands and penned a plethora of sponsorship deals.
However, the 22-year-old hasn’t come close to replicating the stunning Fairytale of New York win. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped her earning millions in the process.
In 2024, it was reported by Sportico that Raducanu was the seventh-highest earning female athlete in the world. Now, she has been warned to up her game or risk being binned off by her commercial endorsements.
Emma Raducanu’s Endorsements
At the time of publication, Emma Raducanu’s endorsements have seen her work alongside the likes of Dior, Porsche, Tiffany, British Airways, Vodafone and Evian to name but a few. She also has deals with Nike and Sports Direct.
Now, sports finance expert Dr Rob Wilson has voiced concerns. If Raducanu fails to impress on the court in 2025, sponsors could start to leave her.
“But if she doesn’t start winning games, if she doesn’t go deep into tournaments.
“She is going to really struggle to renegotiate or renew any of those commercial endorsements and the career could be over pretty much in its infancy.
“Which would be a crying shame because she’s a hugely talented individual and hugely marketable as well,” Wilson concluded.
Next month, Raducanu has the perfect opportunity to shine at the 2025 Australian Open. The 22-year-old recently confessed that nobody will want to face her in Melbourne.
Injuries over the last two years have blighted Raducanu’s progress but the world No 57 is getting back to her best. Recently, she has teamed up with former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova to help improve her game.
Fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura has also been hired by Raducanu in a bid to finally end her injury hell. The Japanese coach has a fine reputation and has worked with a number of tennis stars previously.
The feeling around Raducanu’s camp is very positive going into the new year. Which is just as well – the 22-year-old has earned approximately £9 million from her sponsorships and will be keen not to lose any.
