Emma Raducanu says her constant questioning partially accounts for her chopping and changing of coaches.
The former US Open champion is currently in the midst of her rehabilitation programme after undergoing surgery on both wrists and her ankles.
The 20-year-old has had a high turnover of coaches in her nascent career.
And explaining that, she BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I ask my coaches lots of questions. On certain occasions, they haven’t been able to keep up with the questions I’ve asked and maybe that’s why it ended.
“It’s something I’ve always done. I keep provoking and asking questions to coaches and challenging their thinking as well. I’m not someone that you can just tell me what to do and I’ll do it, I need to understand why and then I’ll do it.”
Raducanu parted company with her latest coach, Sebastian Sachs, back in June. She had previously worked with Andy Murray’s father-in-law Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, who guided her to her US Open win, Torben Beltz and Dimitri Turusunov.
The former British No1 has set no timeframe for her return to competitive tennis action and is still on the look-out for a new coach when she returns to the WTA Tour.
