Emma Dodds explains pundit shoe contagion as broadcaster refutes 'forced' theory

Emma Dodds has hilariously shut down a fan theory over a pundit shoe contagion in Scottish football.

The experienced broadcaster was presenting coverage of the Viaplay Cup semi-final matches at Hampden over the weekend.

Dodds was joined by Alan Hutton, Michael Stewart and Marvin Bartley for the match between Hearts and Rangers on Sunday.

And while the focus during the broadcast was firmly on the semi-finals, some fans couldn't help but notice 'matching' trainers worn by Dodds and Hutton.

On social media site X, formerly Twitter, Dodds was quizzed over trainers worn by multiple pundits during broadcasts.

The presenter was sent a question on the black trainers with a white sole worn by many presenters and pundits in and around Scottish football.

The question read: "Good morning @Sports_EmmaD Can I ask why so many pundits up and down the country for EVERY single game are wearing these trainers with the white sole.

"Are the broadcasters forcing folk to wear them?"

Dodds was taken back by the "topic of conversation" but obliged to answer defending the "smart" sneakers.

The broadcaster replied: "Good evening thanks for your question.

"We’re not forced to wear anything but they’re smart without being too formal and there’s no visible brand. So I think that’s why everyone wears them.

"Who knew this would be a topic of conversation what do you want to see next!? #itscalledfashion #givethepeoplewhattheywant"
