The Weeknd fills four spots on the Hot 100 this week, with all of his successful songs finding space inside the top 20. That’s a notable achievement for the R&B/pop superstar, and it highlights his ability to make anything a hit, whether it’s a song he fronts or something he’s featured on. While the Grammy winner makes history and adds to his ever-expanding list of wins on the chart, a number of hip-hop musicians return to the ranking, some for the first time in many years.
Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.
No. 6 - The Weeknd - “Take My Breath”
The Weeknd is having an incredible week on the Hot 100, and his new top 10 smash is only a small part of his success this time around. The Canadian powerhouse debuts his new release “Take My Breath” at No. 6, earning his lucky thirteenth placement inside the uppermost tier in the process.
Just a few spots below “Take My Breath” comes “Blinding Lights,” which has turned out to be not just the biggest hit of The Weeknd’s career, but of all time in many respects. The song reaches 88 weeks on the Hot 100 this time around, officially breaking the record for the most frames spent on the tally.
No. 20 - Doja Cat - “Need To Know”
"Need to Know" was only released as a promotional single from Doja Cat’s new album Planet Her, but it is quickly turning out to be a major win on the Hot 100. This frame, the tune bolts to a new high of No. 20, entering the top 20 for the first time. The cut vaults from No. 32, showing there is real heat behind the tune.
The promo cut is one of three Cat songs inside the top 20 this frame, as “Kiss Me More” with SZA is up to No. 4 while “You Right” with The Weeknd lifts to No. 16.
No. 39 - Lainey Wilson - “Things A Man Oughta Know”
Earlier this year, Lainey Wilson released her sophomore album Sayin' What I'm Thinkin' five years after her first, and at first, it didn’t look like the collection would be a success. The title failed to reach most Billboard charts, but it has produced the country musician’s biggest hit so far. “Things A Man Oughta Know” improves to No. 39 on this week’s Hot 100, becoming the singer-songwriter’s first top 40 on the list as it rises from No. 45.
No. 67 - Jack Harlow & Pooh Shiesty - “SUVs (Black On Black)”
Just a few weeks after matching his No. 2 peak on the Hot 100 alongside Lil Nas X on the single “Industry Baby,” Jack Harlow is back with a song of his own, “SUVs (Black On Black),” which opens at No. 67. The track actually earns the second-loftiest debut of the week, which is surprising, since it comes in way below the top 40 mark.
“SUVs (Black On Black)” features fellow hip-hop musician Pooh Shiesty and appears to be the first taste of a forthcoming collection from Harlow.
No. 79 - Nas - “EPMD 2 (ft. Eminem & EMPD)”
As his new album King’s Disease II launches at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the rapper debuts two new songs on the Hot 100, upping his career total to 27 placements. Up first among the pair is “EPMD 2,” which kicks off its time on the tally at No. 79 and which credits both hip-hop duo EMPD and Eminem. The track brings EMPD back to the Hot 100 for the first time in what appears to be two decades, while Eminem scores his ninety-second win on the chart. Solo Nas cut “Rare” arrives at No. 100.
