Eminem and Snoop Dogg to give virtual-reality-inspired performance at MTV Video Music Awards

Snoop Dogg and Eminem are ready to bring a new reality to the MTV Video Music Awards.

The hip-hop superstars are teaming up for a performance at Sunday’s awards show in Newark, New Jersey, that’s inspired by the Otherside metaverse, which describes itself as a “gamified, interoperable” virtual reality.

Snoop Dogg and Eminem will perform their song “From the D 2 The LBC” in what organizers promise will be a first-of-its-kind experience.

They’re the latest big-name rappers revealed to be performing at the Prudential Center ceremony, joining Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow. Reggaeton rapper Bad Bunny, meanwhile, will give a live remote performance from Yankee Stadium, where he has two concerts this weekend.

Eminem is a 60-time VMAs nominee and 13-time winner. He last performed at the show in 2010. Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, is a three-time winner out of 13 nominations whose last VMAs performance came in 2005.

Their performance on Sunday will bring new visibility to Otherside, which describes itself as being under development.

“The players own the world, your NFTs can become playable characters, and thousands can play together in real time,” Otherside says.

Minaj’s career achievements will be recognized at this year’s VMAs ceremony with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The Queens-raised rapper is one of the show’s three emcees along with LL Cool J, whose career also started in the borough, and Harlow.
