Emily Upjohn left connections feeling confident in her ability to handle in the track during a pre-Epsom workout.
The hot favourite for the Cazoo Oaks was put through her paces at the big race venue by Frankie Dettori. Just 12 days after her commanding Tattersalls Musidora Stakes victory, Emily Upjohn was exercised around the contours of the famous circuit wearing a hood.
John Gosden, who trains the tall daughter of Sea The Stars with his son Thady, said: "Frankie (Dettori, jockey) felt that for a filly who has had three races in her life it would be nice to come here and just have a look and feel of the track, which is all that you are doing as you are not trying to do any exploratory work.
“She behaved great, moved very well, got her leads right coming down the hill and quickened up nicely. I think she will come on a lot for that mentally. She is not a filly who raced a lot at two as she only had the one run at Wolverhampton, but you can see by the size of the frame of her why we were patient.
“She has filled out well and she has rather enjoyed her morning out here."
Gosden senior has three Oaks winners to his name – Taghrooda in 2014, Enable in 2017 and Anapurna in 2019. Nashwa, the mount of Hollie Doyle, is another leading contender for his top stable on June 3.
The following day, which features the Cazoo Derby, forms part of the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Trainer Charlie Appleby chases back-to-back successes after Adayar's shock triumph 12 months ago.
He hopes to supplement Nations Pride for the 1m 4f Classic, with Nahanni and Walk of Stars also intended runners – and the confirmed pair were sent to the gallops morning. Discussing the first-named horse, he said: "He is a very neat horse and well balanced horse and out of the three he probably ticks the most boxes.
"The question mark is slightly pedigree-wise has he not got an abundance of stamina there, whereas the other two lads they do. If I was to say which horse I would like to ride, let’s get past Wednesday’s gallop and see the wellbeing of Nations Pride. But as we stand at the minute he would be the horse."
Eydon, 16-1 with Betfred in the firm's Derby market, also has the Prix du Jockey Club as an option. The QIPCO 2000 Guineas fourth was among the horses to canter at Epsom.
“He is a big strong horse that moves very well," trainer Roger Varian said. "He has done everything right since the 2000 Guineas and he is a contender whichever race he goes for."
