Emily Hartridge death: Tributes paid to YouTube star who died in electric scooter crash as final video shows her excitement at receiving it as birthday present

Emotional tributes have been paid to TV presenter and YouTuber Emily Hartridge who died in an electric scooter crash days after her final video showed her excitement at being given the vehicle as a birthday present.

The 35-year-old’s final video on her channel shows her excitement at receiving the gift from her boyfriend.

Titled '10 reasons to get a younger boyfriend,' the seven-minute clip shows Jacob Hazell leading her into a room with her eyes closed before revealing the scooters.

“Oh my God, two scooters… why’d you get me two?” she says.

He replies: “This one’s a six and its got your name on it and then this is the one you can use for work, it’s all electric and apparently the best one in the game.”

She says: “Oh my God the best one in the world!”

Ms Hartridge later says that Mr Hazell actually did buy her the two scooters for her birthday.

The Londoner had more than 340,000 subscribers to her channel, where she posted a weekly vlog on topics ranging from relationships to gender.

Ms Hartridge is believed to have been riding the electric scooter that was hit by a lorry on the Queen's Circus roundabout shortly after 8.30am on Friday.

It is believed to be the first time someone riding an e-scooter has been killed on the capital's roads.

Police said a woman aged in her 30s was found with serious injuries. Paramedics battled to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

It came days after Mike Brown, London's transport chief, called for a safety review of the use of e-scooters, which are banned from public roads and pavements in the UK.

A post on her Instagram page confirmed Ms Hartridge had died.

"Emily was involved in an accident yesterday and passed away. We all loved her to bits and she will never be forgotten,” it said.

YouTube Creators also released a statement on Twitter on Saturday.

"We're deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a truly talented British creator, Emily Hartridge," the tweet read. "Our thoughts and condolences go out to all of her loved ones and fans."

Fans and fellow YouTubers also took to social media to pay tribute to the star.

"I met @emilyhartridge on a train 5 years ago, and by the end of the journey we'd shared all sorts of things about our mental health and insomnia. She was funny, kind, and open-hearted," tweeted author Greg Jenner.

"I had the pleasure of working with Emily multiple times over the years. Emily was constantly spreading positivity," tweeted YouTuber Spencer Owen.

In a comment below the statement on her Instagram, presenter Davina McCall wrote: "My heart goes out to Emily's family and friends. Such a shock. Sending you love and prayers."

BBC Radio 1 presenter Chris Stark tweeted: "Really sad to hear the news about Emily Hartridge. She was such a top girl, so talented and a heart of gold. Just makes you remember to live every day like your last. Thinking of her close friends and family with this tragic news."

Comedian London Hughes wrote on Twitter: “Yesterday my whole road was blocked off with police tape due to a road incident, I walked past the scene and thought hope the person’s OK... turns out the person wasn’t okay. My friend is dead and now I feel completely sick.”
