Emilio Izaguirre plots Celtic partnership as cult hero meets Parkhead chiefs over 'strategic' Honduran alliance

Emilio Izaguirre says he's involved in talks over setting up a partnership between Honduran outfit Motagua and Celtic.

The Parkhead cult hero has met with club chiefs after being appointed sporting director at his first club in Honduras. He retired earlier this year after a career where he played for Celtic across two spells, winning seven league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

There's been no time to waste on using his contacts and he says he wants to use the facilities at Lennoxtown to his current club's advantage, citing the development of Kieran Tierney as an example of why. Izaguirre explained: "I have already spoken with Celtic's representatives with the aim of establishing a strategic alliance with both clubs. Our president visits the UK a lot and will go to Glasgow soon to confirm it. I want to use Celtic's technical coaches, their training complex and establish an agreement that would hugely improve this club which is what we want.

"I was passionate about learning and I also remember that at Celtic they gave me three boys to train like me and eat what I ate. It was then I realised coaching wasn't for me and I wanted to do something bigger.

"In two years, I worked closely with and prepared Kieran Tierney and he was eventually sold to Arsenal for £25 million. That's how my desire to prepare footballers and their structure for their careers grew."
