Though Lionel Messi is the player many put on a pedestal for his performance against France in the World Cup final - and deservedly so - Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez belongs up there with him.
After brilliantly saving a last-gasp chance from Randal Kolo Muani which would have completed a remarkable turnaround for France, Martinez went into the penalty shoot-out with the expectations of a nation on his shoulders - and showed just why he has been lauded in the past.
Martinez conceded France's first penalty taken by Kylian Mbappe but he made up for it by saving the second from Kingsley Coman. Just before Aurelien Tchouameni missed his, the goalkeeper was pictured psyching the midfielder out by staring him down and throwing the ball away.

Martinez will now return to Aston Villa where he has already shown in the past how influential he can be, but is he a player that Manchester United should look to sign?
Though David de Gea has been a fantastic servant for United in the past, there are still questions about whether he should be part of the future of the club under Erik ten Hag. Throughout the World Cup, Martinez showed all the qualities needed to be a 'keeper that could succeed under the Dutchman.
Martinez was a constant passing outlet for the Argentina defence, allowing them to distribute out from the back successfully and relieve pressure when opponents would look to dispossess them. He also showed an incredible command of his area, rushing out to meet attackers and claim crosses.
His proven ability to save penalties is something that De Gea has never consistently had. Fans will remember his performance in the Europa League final.
Martinez may not be the exact goalkeeper that United needs to bring in, but he represents the archetype of a number one the club needs to focus on signing in the future. A proactive goalkeeper who inspires confidence at the back and can be relied on in the big moments.
