Emile Smith Rowe was left stunned when he found out that he was the first academy graduate since Cesc Fabregas to score 10 or more goals in a single season for Arsenal.
The Hale End starlet enjoyed an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon as the Gunners defeated Brentford 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
Smith Rowe opened the scoring early in the second half, gliding down the left flank before cutting in on his favoured right foot and curling the ball into the bottom right corner.
It was his ninth Premier League goal of the season and 10th across all competitions, something that he admitted meant a lot to him after the full-time whistle.
"Wow, that’s really special to hear that," he told the club's official website.
"That means a lot, you know? It’s always been a dream to play for Arsenal so to hear that, it means a lot.
"I’m buzzing. The goals are really starting to come now but the most important thing was the three points today.
"It’s a bit surreal, to be honest. Me and Bukayo have both come from the academy, Eddie as well. To hear the fans screaming our names and scoring that today together, it’s just been great."
The win leaves Arsenal just one point behind Manchester United, who have played two more league fixtures and head coach Mikel Arteta was left extremely satisfied with his side's display.
Speaking after the game the Spaniard said: "I think we played really well and created so many chances and shots and attempts on goal in the first half, but we didn’t score a goal. In the Premier League you’ve got to put those chances away you want to win.
"We came in the second half really convincing, we scored a goal and then it was a matter of killing the game. Overall I think we should be happy with the result and the performance."
