Emerson Royal's agent has confirmed that the Tottenham man is "very happy" in N17 at present despite talk of a move away from the club this summer. Signed from Barcelona last August as Fabio Paratici looked to bring in a new right-back, the Brazilian was a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo's side to begin with but then found himself on the bench for a spell following Matt Doherty's return to form under Antonio Conte.
Playing predominantly as a right-back in his career, Emerson struggled to adapt to life as a wing-back in the Italian's system and his up and down form has resulted in question marks surrounding his long-term future in the capital. A new right wing-back is high on Tottenham's shopping list this summer, with Middlesbrough's Djed Spence a potential incoming after a stunning season in the Championship with Nottingham Forest.
Linked with a return to Spain after only one year in the Premier League, Atletico Madrid have been mentioned in regards to the 23-year-old as they attempt to bring in a new right-back ahead of 2022/23. Emerson's father, who also acts as his agent, has confirmed that he has had an informal conversation with Atleti, although he did not disclose whether it was indeed about the Spurs ace as he also represents other players.

“I had an informal conversation with Atletico Madrid, but I am not only the agent of Emerson Royal; I have other players, so I can’t confirm this information released in the press,” he told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness).
“Our intermediary with the press is the Portuguese journalist and neuroscientist Fabiano de Abreu Agrela. He is not only responsible for Emerson’s information, but he deals with mental and high-performance issues.
“He even revealed to me that this kind of rumour is not good for the moment, as the player is very happy at Tottenham and is living a good moment in his career, which will improve even more.”
