Residents were evacuated after a blaze tore through a flat in Perth city centre in the early hours of Monday morning.
Four fire crews rushed to the scene of the blaze in James Street after the alarm was raised at 5.50am.
Pictures show the upper floor of a three-storey block of flats, beside St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church, destroyed as fire fighters worked to tackle the smoke and flames from above.
Local residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Despite a railway bridge coming close to the scene, Scotrail said no services through Perth were affected.
James Street was still closed at 10am and there were diversions around the blocked road leading off Marshall Place.
A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.48am on Monday, August 22 to reports of a fire within a house on James Street, Perth.
“Operations control mobilised four appliances and firefighters are tackling the fire.”
The affected property was at 42 James Street of the four appliances in attendance, three were from Perth and another from Dunkeld.
Police confirmed they had attended.
“Emergency services are in attendance following a report of a fire at a property on James Street in Perth around 6am on Monday, August 22, 2022.
“Local residents have been evacuated as a precaution.
“James Street is closed and local diversions are in place.”
