Passengers were forced to rush off their train and flee from Wilmslow station after a train caught on fire this evening.
Footage from witnesses shows plumes of smoke emerging from a train at Wilmslow station, with police and fire services on the scene. It is believed that the fire started at around 9pm this evening (Wednesday February 22).
Matt Thornton told the Manchester Evening News he was a passenger on the train. He said conductors 'ran' through the carriage telling people to get off 'immediately' as the train pulled into Wilmslow.

"As we got off everyone seemed confused until we saw the large amount of smoke coming from the rear carriage," he said.
"We were told to wait on the platform whilst they figured out what to do with us, however as the smoke began to take over the station, multiple fire engines and police cars arrived and evacuated us from the station.
We were stood for over an hour not knowing how we were going to get to our destination."
Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more information.
