Emergency services rush to scene of Kerry crash as multiple injuries reported and road closed

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in Co Kerry on Tuesday morning.

According to reports and images from the scene, the collision involved a truck transporting a crane and a tourist bus travelling near Loo Bridge.

The incident occurred at around 10.50 am on the Cork/Kilgarvan road, and it is understood that a number of people have been injured.

The driver of a bus sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital by the Irish Community Air Ambulance for treatment.

Meanwhile, RTE News reports that around 30 American tourists were on the bus at the time, eight of which sustained scratches and bruises that were treated at the scene by medical professionals.

The R563 road from Loo Bridge to Kilgarvan remains closed to traffic this afternoon, with diversions in place via Moll's Gap.

A spokesperson from An Garda Siochana confirmed: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 10:50 am on the 31st May 2022 at Loo Bridge, Co. Kerry.

“The driver of one vehicle has been taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries. The road is currently closed and will remain closed this afternoon.”
