Crews have attended a fire at a shop in Cusack centre, Kingston, which was believed to have been caused by an appliance catching fire in the shop.

Currently crews are working to ventilate the structure as there's a significant amount of smoke inside the building.

Police have blocked off parts of Eyre Street to manage the smoke as cars are expected to divert their route from the shopping precinct.

Hazmat trucks arrived to help transport any hazardous material and ensure air ventilation was resolved after the fire.

It is expected a hazmat truck will be coming to help transport any hazardous material that has come from the fire.

ACT Emergency Services Agency confirmed there was no evacuation in the building as the shops have been closed during the night.

The shops were not occupied by anyone and there were no reported injuries.
