A man has been arrested after a minibus smashed into a lamppost at the weekend.
Emergency services raced to the scene on Auchinraith Road, leading towards Glasgow Road, following reports of the collision on Saturday evening.
Locals reported that the road was closed in both directions from its Elm Street junction to the busy roundabout on Glasgow Road, while emergency services tended to a casualty.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were at the scene for some time, with passers-by claiming the accident looked "serious."
A Police Scotland source told Lanarkshire Live : “A report was received shortly after 5.50pm on Saturday (November 12) of a crash involving a van which struck a lamppost on Auchinraith Road in Blantyre.
“A 40-year-old man was taken to Wishaw General for treatment.
“He has been arrested and charged in connection with a road traffic offence. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
SFRS sent two fire engines to the scene, with firefighters "extracting one casualty from the vehicle".
Earlier in the day emergency services raced to the scene of a two car crash at the roundabout next to the Lidl supermarket on Glasgow Road, just yards from the later minibus smash.
Our police source added: “We were made aware of a crash involving two vehicles on Glasgow Road in Blantyre around 1.55pm on Saturday, November 12.
“One man was treated at the scene by the ambulance service and the vehicles were recovered.”
