Emergency services race to tackle blaze at Lanarkshire scrapyard

Fire crews raced to a scrap metal firm in East Kilbride this afternoon after a blaze broke out in the yard.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the Stroud Road site around midday where several lorry trailers had caught fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control with the fire service confirming no one was hurt in the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed details of their call out to Lanarkshire Live.

She told us: "We were alerted at 12.10pm on Friday, April 1 to reports of a fire at commercial premises on Stroud Road, East Kilbride.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews worked to extinguish a fire affecting a number of lorry trailers.

"There were no reported casualties. Crews left after making the area safe."
