The emergency services have given an update on a cash point attack in Lockleaze which caused 'significant damage' to a convenience store below a block of flats. In the early hours of Saturday, March 19, the police and fire service were called to an ATM on fire on Morris Road after locals reported hearing a 'loud bang.'
Two people are believed to have attacked the ATM and stolen a 'quantity of cash' just before 1am. It’s believed a motorcycle was used, according to an initial statement by Avon and Somerset Police. Meanwhile Avon Fire and Rescue said it was looking into whether explosives had been used.
Three days after the attack both emergency services have given an update on the incident. Police says its investigations are ongoing whilst the fire service says the cause of the incident was 'thought to be deliberate ignition.'

Avon and Somerset Police said: "Enquiries continue and we’re still keen to hear from witnesses." Anyone who saw people acting suspiciously nearby at the time, or may have footage from the surrounding area that could assist police enquiries, is asked to call 101 and give reference 5222065504, or complete an online appeal form.
Meanwhile Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 00:56 on March 19 to reports of an ATM on fire in a shop front on Morris Road, Lockleaze.
"On arrival at the scene, firefighters from Southmead and Temple found significant damage to the front and interior of the store. Crews used thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots and a gas monitor to check the area.
"We were joined by police colleagues at the scene and a cordon was put in place for the public’s safety. The scene was later handed over to Avon and Somerset Police.
"The cause of the incident was thought to be deliberate ignition."
