Emergency services are at the scene of a fatal incident on the train line near Portlaoise.
It happened on the line between Ballybrophy and Portlaoise around 9am.
The line was closed for a time, with Irish Rail reporting “major disruption”.
A spokesperson said: “Major disruption to services. Emergency services are attending a tragic incident on the line between Ballybrophy and Portlaoise. Services are not operating in the area.”
At 12.30pm they confirmed the line is reopening and services will resume in the area, although “significant knock-on delays are expected”.
The Cork, Limerick and Tralee to Heuston services are among those affected.
It is expected to have an impact on some people travelling from Clare to Dublin for today’s All Ireland Hurling Semi-Final against Kilkenny.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are at the scene of an incident on the train line near Portlaoise. Owing to the tragic nature of the incident no further details are available at this time. Gardaí are working closely with Irish Rail to restore services as soon as possible."
