Threat level downgraded for bushfire in Chittering, in Perth's north-east

The threat level for a bushfire burning 75 kilometres north-east of Perth has been downgraded.

There is now a watch and act in place for the area bounded by the Great Northern Highway on the western flank, as well as Chittering Road, Lake Road and Flat Rocks Road in the Shire of Chittering.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services had earlier issued an emergency warning for the fire, which is controlled but not contained.

The bushfire, which was reported at 2:30pm, is moving in a north easterly direction.

Firefighters are on the scene.

Great Northern Highway is closed from the Chittering Roadhouse to Flat Rocks Road.
