Emeli Sandé pictured with girlfriend for first time as she celebrates living her truth

Emeli Sandé has shared a picture of herself with her girlfriend for the first time as she celebrates living her truth after finding love with a woman.

The Scots born Read All About It singer who was previously married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine, said this week that she is ‘happier than ever’ in her new relationship.

After being married to Adam for two years, she revealed she had fallen for a pianist when learning about classical music.

The 35-year-old who starts on a nationwide tour next month, has now posed online a selfie with Yoana who she describes as her 'soul mate'.

Emeli and Yoana are cuddled up in the photo and Emeli posted beside the picture: "It’s taken me many years to find the strength to be myself. I’ve struggled for a long time to accept myself as I am.

"I’m so lucky to have found my soul mate Yoana, she’s such an extraordinary woman! Falling in love with her has given me the strength I needed."

The Clown singer added ‘feels so good to be in love’ and she is ‘happier than ever’.

‘I’m deeply touched by all your messages of love and support. Thank you so much for your acceptance and kind wishes,’ she shared.

"Feels like a huge weight has been lifted, here’s to a new beginning in truth an happiness."

Members of the LGBTQ+ community welcomed Emeli ‘to the family’.

Glasgow's Proud Scotland Awards, who are holding a ceremony at the city's Radisson Blu Hotel on June 3, said: "Heartwarming news for the weekend as Emeli Sande says she has a girlfriend.

"She is a great supporter of what we do. Why not head over to Proud Scotland Awards and nominate her for the music award as she is now eligible to be nominated?

"Nominations shut next Sunday for Scotland's LGBT+ Awards so still time."

Others added: "You are phenomenal, beautiful, and talented. Your music held me through some tough times, so know that your village is holding you up right now!

"So elated for you to have the fullness of joy, love, and acceptance that you deserve. Congratulations."

And another said: "Oh Emily, this is wonderful to see! Coming out for me felt impossible at one time, but thankfully so positive, and why shouldn’t we be the happiest truest versions of ourselves?! #loveislove’"

Emeli and Yoana met just after lockdown and have already met up with Emeli's parents in Aberdeenshire.
