Embleton named among 'Wonderful Walks' to enjoy across the UK this Valentine's Day

The area of Embleton Bay in Northumberland has been included in a new list of seven 'wonderful walks' in the UK.

The round-up features what it says are the best places to visit with the family this Valentine’s Day, with the North East inclusion highlighting the bay's 'stunning' and 'panoramic' views taking in the likes of Dunstanburgh Castle. And it recommends a walk of just under four hours to take it all in.

The list has been drawn up by wellbeing company Connect Health in a bid to promote the benefits of winter walking. And, with Valentine's Day coming up, it says the date is an ideal time to enjoy activities with loved ones.

It adds: "We need to remind ourselves this day is not just a celebration for couples, love is all around us - and what a better way than spend it with your family." It says walking is good for both heart and soul and urges people to wrap up and make the most of a cold weather stroll which can also boost the immune system.

The write-up for the Embleton Bay walk says: "Northumberland is an area that’s steeped in rich history, some of which you can encounter by arranging a walk at the iconic Embleton Bay. This entire adventure would take roughly three hours and 45 minutes to complete, so you should consider that when arranging who to bring along with you."

It adds: "Enjoy panoramic views of the sea as you amble along the gentle coastal paths, and don’t forget to stop for a moment to appreciate the stunning views of the ruined 14th Century Dunstanburgh Castle that backdrops part of the trail."

The health company says cold weather may make people reluctant to leave their homes but that "we should take advantage of sporadic opportunities to enjoy healthy walks in the great outdoors", adding: "Walks in the winter can be a special time, especially when made into a family bonding activity.

"Not only can our immune system activate itself when exposed to the cold - meaning an improved ability to fight off infections - but parks, beaches and forests often look truly breathtaking in the bright winter light."

Its list of wonderful walks, drawn up with retail company Cath Kidston, includes six others. They are Heddon Valley in North Devon; Beatrix Potter Walk at Sawrey in The Lake District; Glencoe Lochan in the Highlands of Scotland; Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland; Three Cliffs Bay in Swansea, Wales, and Blakeney Freshes in Norfolk.
