The chairman of Topps Tiles, who has been facing a shareholder bid to oust him, is to join the board of JD Sports.
Darren Shapland will become a non-executive director at the Greater Manchester-headquartered retail giant from June 1.
Mr Shapland has previously been the CEO of Carpetright and CFO of Sainsbury's, Superdrug and a number of divisions of The Burton Group Plc.

The appointment comes after the management at Topps Tiles overcame a bid by its biggest shareholder to get rid of Mr Shapland as its chairman and bring in two new board members.
The company won overwhelming support at its AGM to defeat changes proposed by Austria-based investor MS Galleon GmbH (MSG) – which owns almost 30% of shares in the tile retailer.
Mr Shapland said pretty much the only shareholders to vote for his removal were MSG.
JD Sports has also announced that Angela Luger will also join its board as a non-executive director on June 1.
She has previously held positions at Cadbury's, Coca Cola and Asda and has acted as managing director at Debenhams and CEO at The Original Factory Shop and N Brown Group.
JD Sports chairman Andrew Higginson said: "I am delighted to welcome Angela and Darren to the JD board.
"They bring a wealth of retail expertise, strengthen the JD board's Plc experience and complement the board's existing skills and knowledge."
