Elvis star Austin Butler's Golden Globe speech goes viral following Lisa Marie Presley's death

Austin Butler’s Golden Globe speech has gone viral following the death of Lisa Marie Presley. Butler, who played Elvis Presley in the biopic ‘Elvis’, paid tribute to the king of rock and roll’s only daughter and former wife Priscilla Presley just days before Lisa Marie’s death.

Butler, 31, won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his portrayal in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic on Tuesday. In his speech, which has since gone viral following Lisa Marie’s death, the actor said “I want to thank the Presley family.

“Thank you, guys. Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, and your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”

The viral video shows the Presley family becoming emotional as they listened to Butler’s speech.

Lisa Marie, 54, was in attendance at the 80th Golden Globes with her mother in support of Butler, just two days before her death.

People have been going back to re-watch the speech and one user said "Austin Butler thanking Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley two days ago is extra powerful now."

Another tweeted: "So happy Lisa Marie got to be part of this incredible moment. Cannot wrap my head around her being gone. Praying for her children and mom!"

One person described the Presley's reaction to the speech as "the most moving moment of the awards."

The organisers of the awards ceremony said Lisa Marie Presley had been “a very welcome presence” at Tuesday’s awards, in a statement which paid tribute to her as “an extremely talented singer/songwriter”.

“We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Lisa Marie Presley,” the statement read. “May you rest in peace.”

Priscilla Presley confirmed her daughters’ death in a statement on Thursday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” the statement read. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”
