Elton John wows New York crowd after private jet suffers terrifying failure at 10,000ft

Elton John was back on stage an New York just hours after it was reported that his private jet suffered a failure on route to the Big Apple.

The veteran performer, 74, seemingly didn't let the horrifying incident affect his stage presence as fans took to social media to praise the gig.

Part of his Yellow Brick Road farewell tour, the Rocket Man singer entertained the thousands in attendance at Madison Square Garden.

Fans were quick to praise his performance on social media, with New Jersey's Governor Christie taking to Twitter to gush: "Had a great night seeing the Elton John Farewell Yellowbrick Road concert at Madison Square Garden with MP and Sarah. An amazing performer on his last trip around the circuit.

Another fan agreed, simply writing: "Elton at MSG. Fantastic. @eltonofficial @TheGarden."

"The ultimate showman. Thank you, Sir @eltonofficial," wrote a third.

Earlier in the day, the singer had let fans know he was safe in the Big Apple as he posted snaps from the city alongside the caption: "Hello New York! See you @TheGarden tonight."

And one fan who was seemingly in attendance, replied after the show to say: "Love you. Thank you," alongside an emoji of a rocket.

Elton's plane is said to have had to attempt an emergency landing twice at Farnborough Airport, Hants, after coming into trouble during Storm Franklin on Monday, according to The Sun.

The attempt twice had to be aborted as winds reached 80mph, only successfully touching down at the third attempt as fire crews waited on the runway.

According to a witness, the plane was being "rocked from side to side" as it tried multiple times to land.

"The pilot made a flatter approach and the wind had dropped slightly. Everyone watching was mightily relieved," plumber Philip Thomson, who was working at the time, explained

"It was a horrible thing to see, and you wouldn’t have swapped places with Elton on that small plane for anything. I bet he said a few prayers of thanks."

According to the publication, he got on a later flight in order to make it for the concerts.

It's not the first mishap that nearly interrupted his eagerly awaited tour.

It was originally postponed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and just a month ago the music legend had to devastatingly cancel two dates after he contracted coronavirus.

A statement on behalf of the star at the time said: "It is with great regret that the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour dates in Dallas set for Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26 must be postponed due to Elton recently testing positive for COVID-19.

"Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms. Fans should hold on to their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon."
