'Elton John' spotted at petrol garage near Anfield

Fans rushed to see who they thought was Elton John outside a petrol garage near Anfield.

The Rocket Man superstar is currently on a mammoth Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which also includes two dates at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena next year. After a day of soaring temperatures, it’s set to be a sweltering night inside the home of Liverpool FC, with Elton due to perform a huge set of hits from his extensive back catalogue.

There is no support act tonight and the singer is expected to take to the stage at 7pm. However fans were convinced they spotted Elton not far from the stadium.

Photos captured by an ECHO photographer shows someone who looks uncannily like the Candle In The Wind singer walking near the Morrisons petrol garage just off Walton Breck Road. Wearing a red suit with gold lettering which says 'Rocket Man' on it, red shoes and a British flag necklace.

Surrounded by two "security guards" it's unclear if it was the Grammy awarded singer, however some fans were convinced it was. Elton John’s tour arrived in the UK earlier this week as he performed to a huge crowd at Carrow Road in Norwich.

He started the show with Benny and the Jets, which he’s expected to lead with again tonight, before cruising through a setlist that includes Tiny Dancer, Your Song, I’m Still Standing and his recent number one Cold Heart.

After his Anfield gig the singer is heading to Sunderland, Bristol, London, Swansea, Cork and Watford, before heading off the for the American leg of the tour. Last week the Rolling Stones performed in front of a huge audience at Anfield and on Monday, the Eagles bring the stadium's 2022 summer concerts come to an end.
