Elton John's Sunderland fans greeted by request from music legend as message appears on screen

Elton John had a request for concert goers who flocked to see him in Sunderland on Sunday night.

After getting their tickets ages ago, it was finally time for fans of the music icon to see their hero in action on June 19, as he prepared to hit the stage at the Stadium of Light. Elton arrived on Wearside on a serious high from the night before, paying tribute to his crowd in Liverpool for moving him with their reaction.

Elton has been playing all over Europe on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, with him unable to perform in person at the Platinum Party at the Palace for the Queen's Jubilee, due to him being in Milan. Elton John's setlis t for the tour boasts huge hits like Bennie and the Jets, Philadelphia Freedom and Your Song, with other songs in his repertoire including Your Song, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word and Candle in the Wind.

The latter three are all ballads but with the likes of Crocodile Rock, I'm Still Standing and The Bitch is Back also on the setlist, there are ample opportunities for Elton fans to dance and that's exactly what the man himself encouraged them to do at the Stadium of Light. Unlike the recent concerts by Ed Sheeran, Elton's concert is all seated, but he didn't want that to men that no one would stand up.

As they headed into the ground, fans were welcomed by a message on a huge screen near the stage which read: "Elton John encourages all his guests to stand and dance in front of their seats.

"Please keep the aisles clear, but express yourself!"

Sunderland got in the mood for Elron's arrival for most of the day, with pubs playing his songs and a tribute act performing outside The Bridges shopping centre during the afternoon.
