Elton John's seven-word farewell message to the UK after headlining Glastonbury

Elton John has sent a message to fans as he spoke publicly for the first time after headlining Glastonbury Festival on Sunday night.

The musical legend closed the huge event at Worthy Farm with a two-hour farewell show that included many of his hits and a number of special guests. Elton John performed classics such as Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) and I'm Still Standing to name a few.

During his vibrant set, Elton John claimed this could be his "last ever show in England and Great Britain."

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Monday, the 76-year-old said: "Thank you, Glastonbury! The energy last night was like nothing else, and I couldn’t be more grateful to the crowd and the people watching at home for all your love and support.

"You will be in my heart and soul forever."

Sir Elton then signed off with a seven-word goodbye message as he added: "UK, what a farewell. I love you [waving emoji]".

Celebrity friends and fans alike have rushed to comment on the post. David Beckham said: "No, thank you", while Pixie Lott sent a series of heart-eyes emojis.

Jessie Ware said: "Elton John was probably the best headliner I've ever seen at Glastonbury. Sheer perfection. So lucky I got to be in the audience for this".
