Elton John's sad admission to Cork audience after putting on superb show

Elton John told fans on Friday night that it would be his last time performing in Cork after a brilliant gig in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

The 75-year-old singer rolled back the years with an energetic set Leeside but it will be the last time he graces a stage in the county - as many would have expected with this being his farewell tour.

The admission was greeted with a sombre response before fans began to cheer on the legendary performer.

John added that he will "never forget" the crowd and they will "live in my heart" for a long time to come.

He said: "My first concert here was in the Marquee on July 9, 2007. This is going to be my last concert in Cork and I want to thank you.

"When the tour ends next year I will be 76 years of age and I really want to spend the rest of my life with my children and my family. But I will never forget you guys. You're in my heart, how can I forget you?

"I've got so many memories to tell my children about Ireland and how beautiful this city is, how great the Irish people are. I love you very much."

Fans praised John for a "fantastic performance" that was worth the wait, having been delayed with Covid in recent times.

The Rocket man singer started just after 8pm and entertained the audience for two-and-a-half hours with some of his greatest hits.
