Elton John said hello to his long-delayed “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour.
The “Rocket Man” rocker returned Wednesday with a concert in New Orleans, marking his first performance for the tour since a show in Australia in March 2020.
“It’s good to be back!!” John 74, wrote in an Instagram post after his gig at the Smoothie King Center.
Wednesday’s concert followed repeated postponements to the tour, which stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic and from John suffering a fall that left the singer with “considerable pain and discomfort in my hip,” which he detailed in an announcement last September.
John told the cheering crowd in New Orleans that he’d “never had this amount of time off” in his career, video taken at the venue shows.
“New Orleans, I’ve loved you since I first visited in 1971!’ John captioned his Instagram post. “You’ve got funk and you’ve got electricity and I couldn’t have asked for a better welcome back after so long off the road.”
John kicked off his international, multi-year “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in 2018. It is currently scheduled to run until July 2023, with his next stops taking place this month in Houston and Dallas.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is set to perform concerts at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden on Feb. 22-23, and another at the Prudential Center in Newark on Feb. 25.
