Elton John puts on poignant Party at the Palace show after being seen in wheelchair

Sir Elton John put on a poignant performance at Party at the Palace - just days after he was seen in a wheelchair.

The 75-year-old singer sparked concern amongst fans recently when he was seen being pushed in a wheelchair as he arrived at Leipzig Airport in Germany following a date of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

But as he appeared at Buckingham Palace tonight in a pre-recorded performance, he looked a picture of health as he sang his hugely popular track Your Song, which is believed to have been one of the tracks he sang at Harry and Meghan's lunchtime reception.

As part of the set, he thrilled the crowds with a pre-recorded performance projected on the apace.

As they watched the show from home, fans took to Twitter to say how great it was to see Elton back on stage - albeit virtually.

"Wow Elton John still has an amazing voice! #PlatinumPartyatthePalace," one wrote.

A third shared: "Sir Elton John saves the day. #eltonjohn #PlatinumPartyatthePalace."

After being seen in the wheelchair, Elton took to social media to insist he was doing well.

Offering an update on his health, he said: "The true story is that I’m in top health, loving my shows and playing and singing at my very best. I give 100% every night and never want to disappoint, especially after everyone has waited so long to get back to seeing shows.

"Your response to every show has been phenomenal and I’m loving every minute of it."

Explaining why he was seen in a wheelchair, he added: "After another rousing 2.5 hour show, we arrived at Leipzig airport just before curfew, to find part of the airport had closed. It was an extremely long walk to get to the plane, so my team kindly laid on a wheelchair so I could rest my hip after doing the show. That’s all folks."

Elton had previously explained how he had injured his hip in a fall last year.

"At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since," he said back in November last year, "Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving."
