Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, accusing them of deviating from the original mission of the AI company. Musk claims that when he provided funding for OpenAI's establishment, there was an agreement in place to maintain the organization as a non-profit focused on developing technology for the betterment of society.
According to the lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court, OpenAI was supposed to keep its code open to the public rather than restricting access for private companies' profit. Musk alleges that by forming a close partnership with Microsoft, OpenAI has strayed from its initial goals and is now prioritizing financial gains over societal benefits.
The lawsuit asserts that OpenAI has essentially become a subsidiary of Microsoft, working on advancing artificial general intelligence (AGI) to maximize profits for the tech giant rather than serving the greater good. AGI refers to AI systems capable of performing tasks as well as or better than humans across various domains.
Musk's legal action includes claims of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and unfair business practices. He is seeking an injunction to prevent any entity, including Microsoft, from exploiting OpenAI's technology for their own gain.
