Billionaire CEO Elon Musk Tweeted Tuesday that (META) Meta-owned WhatsApp “can’t be trusted.”
The message came in response to a weekend post from a Twitter engineer who wrote that “WhatsApp has been using the microphone in the background, while I was asleep and since I woke up at 6 am. What’s going on?”

Musk later added that WhatsApp founders left Meta “in disgust” and were vital in building a new messaging service called Signal.
“What they learned about Facebook & changes to WhatsApp obviously disturbed them greatly,” he said.
Though WhatsApp is known for its end-to-end encryption software, which ensures the protection of your messages, NordVPN noted that the messaging app has a couple of security and privacy risks. One of these involves some vulnerabilities to malware, and another involves a privacy policy that sends a lot of user data to Meta.
The issue of WhatsApp keeping the microphone on in background is not new; users have reported this issue on Samsung phones, Google phones and iPhones over the past several months.
WhatsApp said in a statement that they believe the issue is caused by a bug on Android's operating system and has asked Google to investigate and remedy the problem.
