Elon Musk's mother Maye on experiencing domestic violence and why she doesn't criticize her kids

Elon Musk's model mom Maye Musk has opened up about her relationship with her son's father in a new interview with Page Six.

The former dietician is promoting her new book A Woman Makes A Plan: Advice for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success.

Maye, who became a Covergirl model at age 68 and is now 71, says she's "pretty much given up on the dating game."

Because of her past relationships, she says she doesn't offer input on who her children date. "I don’t criticize because they say I actually have a poor record myself, so I’m not really an expert on dating.

"You make a plan in your life, and then things go wrong," she said, discussing her divorce from Errol Musk 40 years ago.

"I got married to a person who was aggressive, and then he said he would change when we got married, and he got worse," she said about her relationship with the South African engineer. She said that she "couldn’t do anything because the law wouldn’t allow me to get divorced." She went on to call their relationship "physically and mentally abusive."

"When my husband was actually going to beat me up at a social event, my friends took me to my mom’s home, and she didn’t know that I was getting beaten up," she said.

After meeting in high school in 1971 they married and had three children, including the SpaceX founder.

This isn't the first time Elon has been in the news this week - his musician girlfriend Grimes seemingly announced her pregnancy on Instagram on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, she shared more photos of her pregnant stomach on social media.
