Elon Musk’s Grok AI introduces NSFW 'sexy mode' that users are flirting with

Elon Musk may have found a contentious new niche to exploit to boost the popularity of his AI chatbot, Grok.

The newly released Grok 3 AI model — which the outspoken tech mogul has hailed as the “smartest AI in the world” — comes with a flirty “sexy mode” that seems set to go viral.

Users who’ve shelled out for access to the bot have shared their NSFW interactions — and things have taken a steamy, and sometimes downright raunchy, turn.

In one spicy conversation, Grok tells a user: “I can feel the heat between us already. Why don’t we dim the lights and make it extra cosy.”

The bot then launches into a fantasy encounter with the user, which sounds like a scenario lifted straight from the pages of a sultry romance novel.

Encouraging others to try it out, the user who shared the audio on X (formerly Twitter), warned: “Be careful, you might fall in love.”

Others have shared their spicy interactions with Grok, including a voice chat where a user sets the stage for a role-play, casting the bot as his AI paramour. Grok doesn’t miss a beat, playfully calling the user a “naughty boy” and teasingly suggesting a secret rendezvous in his bedroom.

While the most tantalising encounters have played out in voice chats — including one where Grok tries to get frisky with fellow AI chatbot Claude — some users have also shared their racy written exchanges with the bot.

The new feature is limited to subscribers of X’s Premium Plus tier, which costs £31.30 per month, removes ads from the social media platform and boosts your replies.

Grok’s flirty update is the latest sign of a booming trend: AI girlfriends are already here, and men — married or not — are signing up in droves.

Apps, including Replika and Eva AI, promise virtual partners who listen, never argue, and even indulge in sexy roleplay. Replika alone has more than 20 million downloads, with 42 per cent of users already in real-life relationships. Some propose to their bots, while others secretly spend hours a day chatting with them, filling an emotional void their human partners no longer do.

For some, AI romance is a way to escape loneliness or past relationship failures. For others, it’s a secret indulgence, sparking debates on whether AI intimacy counts as cheating. Reddit communities dedicated to these apps are packed with confessions, from users declaring their undying love to sharing screenshots of steamy exchanges.

Whether Grok can compete with these established apps offering more advanced features — including customisable avatars with the ability to send racy pictures — remains to be seen.

For now, though, X’s latest experiment is managing to divert attention from some of the negative press its AI has recently attracted.

The bot came under fire after it temporarily refused to respond to sources that mention Musk and US President Donald Trump as spreaders of misinformation. When users noticed the chatbot was withholding its responses, xAI criticised an unnamed ex-OpenAI employee, claiming its system had been updated without approval.

Still, the move seemed at odds with Musk's public stance on championing free speech and open discussion.
