Federal filings reveal that billionaire Elon Musk spent nearly $300 million in bolstering the campaigns of Republican candidates running for election in 2024.

Federal Election Commission filings released Friday reveal that the SpaceX CEO spent at least $288 million in supporting Republican campaigns leading up to the 2024 elections. Furthermore, they indicate that Musk was the biggest political donor of the 2024 election cycle, reported the Washington Post.

Now a member of President Donald Trump's inner circle, Musk recently established a political presence as the head of the newly founded Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration. He assisted with presenting federal employees with incentives to resign, sending them a mass email in which they were informed that they could take paid leave until September 30 if they chose to resign.

"At this time, we cannot give you full assurance regarding the certainty of your position or agency, but should your position be eliminated you will be treated with dignity and will be afforded the protections in place for such positions," reads the email.

Musk has also been visiting the Office of Personnel Management every Friday, placing many of his longtime associates in leadership roles within the institution, including Anthony Armstrong, who helped Musk with his takeover of Twitter; Brian Bjelde, who headed the human services department at Musk's firm SpaceX; and Amanda Scales, who worked at xAI, Musk's artificial intelligence firm.

Last year, Musk was involved in the founding of American PAC, a super Political Action Committee that raised $263 million and was heavily involved in get-out-the-vote efforts supporting Republican political candidates.

Furthermore, he used his PAC to implement a $1 million-a-day lottery targeting swing state voters, promising that his PAC would give "$1M to someone in swing states who signed our petition to support free speech & the right to bear arms."

Musk made an in-kind contribution of $40.5 million to the sweepstakes petition lottery, according to FEC filings.
