Elon Musk Doesn't Care About Living Forever

Billionaires seem to be really curious about space. And in that respect, Elon Musk is right there with the rest of them. But unlike his ultra-wealthy peers, Musk has no interest in eternal life.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and the third-richest man alive, invested in a biotech firm in 2021 whose goal is to reverse the aging process.

The company, Altos Labs, has been pursuing ways to turn old cells young through biological reprogramming.

Google co-founder Larry Page launched Calico Labs, his very own biotech company with an eye to anti-aging, in 2013. Calico Labs' mission is to "better understand the biology that controls aging and lifespan," with the goal of applying that understanding to help people live longer, healthier lives.

These two are far from the only players in the field; a market research company recently estimated that the anti-aging market could be worth close to $100 billion by 2028.

But, in Musk, there is at least one billionaire who has no interest in sticking around past his expiration date.

More Elon Musk:

"Speaking just for myself, I welcome the sweet release of death, but I would like to talk to my grandchildren before dying," Musk tweeted July 15.

Musk has previously questioned the value of longer lifespans, agreeing with a Twitter user who said: "Is it really useful to increase the lifespan? We already have a gerontocracy in many countries. Even at the corporate level, giving way to younger people is a good thing. I'm not sure I'll be on Earth too long."

Last week, Musk challenged Peter Diamandis, the founder of the XPrize Foundation and Singularity University, who said that a "dramatically extended healthspan" is coming soon to the human race.

"We seem to be leveling off with a mid-80-year lifespan," Musk said at the time. "Are you aware of something presently that changes this outcome?"
