Elon Musk denies any drug use following a scathing WSJ report

Elon Musk is the subject of a scathing Wall Street Journal report published over the weekend alleging that the prolific and outspoken CEO of Tesla (TSLA) -) and SpaceX has used a variety of illegal drugs.

The following day, Musk took to his social media platform X to not only explain his side of the story, but to also lambast the Journal's credibility as a publication.

In a reply thread to X user @WholeMarsBlog, he called the article "comedy gold," and explained in a later post that he agreed to "3 years of random drug testing" after he was seen smoking a cannabis blunt on an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience in 2018. He claimed that "not even trace quantities were found of any drugs or alcohol" were found in him.

In the same post, he tagged the Journal's X account and said that the newspaper is "not fit to line a parrot cage for bird [feces]."

In a reply to another X user @WhatsupFranks, whose mother told him about Italian news stations picking up the WSJ story, Musk said that in the meanwhile he was "leading Tesla to be the world’s most valuable car company" and "SpaceX to be the world’s most valuable space company."

In the same thread, he replied to a user who joked that he would "have what he's having," saying "If drugs actually helped improve my net productivity over time, I would definitely take them!"

In a separate post, Musk further criticized the Wall Street Journal, saying that TMZ, the famed Hollywood and celebrity gossip outlet, has "vastly higher standards" than the Journal.

In the Wall Street Journal's report on Musk published late January 6, cited sources said that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has used a variety of substances, including cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, ketamine and psilocybin (psychedelic mushrooms), while board members expressed their worries about his health and the swath of companies he oversees.

More on Elon Musk:

Alex Spiro, an attorney representing Elon Musk told the Wall Street Journal that his client is "regularly and randomly drug tested at SpaceX and has never failed a test."
