Recently, X, previously known as Twitter, may be considering a significant change in its platform. Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, hinted at the possibility of removing the display of likes and reposts during a conference. Musk expressed his belief that showcasing these metrics could clutter the platform's interface, as reported by Reuters.
This potential alteration is not the first time Musk has proposed substantial modifications to X since taking over in October 2022. In a previous announcement in August, Musk revealed plans to eliminate article headlines from links shared on the platform, citing aesthetic improvements as the primary motivation.
Following the initial rollout of this change in October, Musk later reversed the decision within a short period. In a subsequent X post on November 22, Musk clarified that article titles would be displayed at the top of the image of a URL card, with the URL positioned at the bottom, maintaining the current format.
Despite the evolving nature of these adjustments, Musk's representatives have not provided additional comments on these developments when contacted by Business Insider outside regular business hours.
