Elon Musk boldly claimed he could land humans on Mars "as soon as 2029."

"Starship departs for Mars at the end of next year, carrying Optimus," the SpaceX CEO wrote in an X post shared on Saturday, referring to the space technology company's launch vehicle and Tesla's robot.

"If those landings go well, then human landings may start as soon as 2029, although 2031 is more likely," he added.

However, the world's richest man has a record of making lofty promises that he doesn't keep. Dan O'Dowd, an expert software creator, recently took aim at Musk's "completely fabricated" visions, including his plans to send a million people to Mars.

"It's preposterous. No serious planetary scientist thinks this is remotely feasible. Mars has no oxygen, no water, and is freezing cold nearly all the time. These are big problems. You need air and water, and Mars doesn't have them," O'Dowd stated during an interview with International Policy Digest.
