Billionaire Elon Musk may not be the gaming savant he portrays after experts raised eyebrows at his apparent lack of basic game knowledge while playing Path of Exile 2.

Critics, including prominent streamers, have gone so far as to allege Musk might be hiring others to play for him to maintain his reputation.

During a Jan. 7 stream, Musk showcased his level 95 hardcore character, a feat that should signify mastery over the game's grueling mechanics. Instead, the broadcast descended into a spectacle of confusion, according to PC Gamer.

From leaving high-value items like Chaos Orbs untouched to naming his inventory tabs "Elon's Map," viewers noted inconsistencies that hinted at something amiss.

"There are four things here," Musk said while examining map nodes, as reported by PC Gamer. The comment, combined with other apparent missteps, fueled doubts about his understanding of the game. Concerns reached new heights when seasoned streamers like Quin69 and Asmongold dissected the footage.

"One hundred percent someone plays an account for him," said Quin69 per Dexerto, laughing at Musk's failure to activate essential features like the Atlas.

Asmongold also shared, "There's no way he played that account. I'm sorry, but somebody played it for him, one hundred f***ing percent."

"Trying to have somebody play your account and get people to think you're a serious, real gamer, is ridiculous. It's embarrassing. Extremely f***ing lame," he added.

Reddit users familiar with Path of Exile 2 pointed out more red flags. Musk's gear, described as "better than a lot of full-time streamers," seemed implausibly optimized for someone fumbling through the basics.

"The weird part to me is that he feels he needs to brag about being a pro gamer for some reason," one Redditor mused, discussing the irony of a man who has amounted success in various business spaces seeking validation in the gaming world.
