Ellis Zorro of Britain defended his WBO European Cruiserweight championship against Italian Luca D’Ortenzi in London on unanimous points.
Ellis Zorro, 31, (17-0 , 7 KOs) was given the victory on all three scorecards after putting in a commendable effort throughout the contest, but he will require surgery for a new nose injury sustained in the third round.
“I am very excited to fight in London in the York Hall which is a very famous hall of English boxing!! It will be awesome,” said Luca D’Ortenzi in media reports before his fight with Ellis Zorro.
Ellis Zorro defeated Italian opponent Luca D’Ortenzi ,(17-4 , 4 KOs) by a unanimous points decision to keep his WBO European Cruiserweight title.
Zorro started off stronger, mixing body blows and jabs, but D’Ortenzi gained confidence and started landing his left hook more frequently in the middle rounds, putting Lewisham’s fighter on the defensive.
“I’ve gone from, trying to get on a card and sitting around after winning the Boxer, to headlining and winning a title and now headlining again to defend it. I am over the moon, to be honest with you, I am happy it is at York Hall again and my last two have been good fights for the fans,” said Ellis Zorro in media reports before he met Luca D’Ortenzi to defend his title.
On all three scorecards—96-94, 97-93, and a landslide 98-92—Zorro won the fights.
Both fighters connected on blows in the last rounds, but Zorro’s superior work ethic made the difference and allowed him to move on to a bout with one of the many talented British cruiserweights in 2024.
