Elliot Lee nets stunning goal for Wrexham in FA Cup third-round clash with Coventry City

Wrexham were once a club synonymous with the art of a cup giant-killing, but their start at Coventry City must have still taken their loyal fans by surprise a little.

The National League outfit, in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in seven years, made a confident start at the Coventry Building Society Arena, in front of a raucous travelling crowd of around 4,500 fans.

The away end was sent into bedlam after just 12 minutes, as Wrexham were rewarded for their early confidence when Sam Dalby headed home. Cue bedlam, but things were to get even better just a few minutes later, as Phil Parkinson's men doubled their lead in sublime style.

Elliot Lee, son of former Newcastle United midfielder Rob, doubled the Reds' advantage with a stunning strike from distance, cutting in from the left before curling home a monster effort from 30 yards or so.

You can watch the stunning goal below:

It could well go down as one of Wrexham's all-time great FA Cup strikes, although Coventry did later hit back when Ben Sheaf lashed home on 36 minutes, setting up a fascinating cup tie. But Wrexham restored their two-goal cushion just before half-time when Tom O'Connor sent a header looping into the net.

Promotion this season is clearly still the main aim for the Hollywood-backed side, who obviously stole hearts on both sides of the Atlantic with the hit series Welcome to Wrexham. But while Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will be hoping to bring league football back to the Racecourse Ground at the end of the season, the Dragons clearly still have a bit of cup magic left in the tank.
