Elle Edwards’ heartbreaking '2023' message to dad that never came true

Footage shows Elle Edwards sharing a heartbreaking message to her dad at the end of their final night out together.

The popular beautician was tragically gunned down outside the Lighthouse Pub in Wallasey Village on Christmas Eve 2022. Connor Chapman, 23, who opened fire outside of the pub, was sentenced to a minimum of 48 years in prison for the murder of "wholly innocent" Elle.

In a new BBC documentary which follows his journey in the weeks leading up to the murder trial, Tim Edwards recalls his and his daughter’s final night out together. Speaking to journalist Jane McCubbin for BBC Breakfast film titled Killed On Christmas Eve, he shares how he, his daughter Lucy and Elle arranged a trip to Manchester’s Christmas markets.

Elle and sister Lucy returned to Merseyside from Dubai a week early to surprise family in December 2022. In the days running up to Christmas, Tim said they “had a ball” on their final night out together in Manchester.

Footage in the film, taken by Elle at the end of the night, shows Tim sat on the sofa in his flat. Listening to their favourite song together, Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, Elle can be heard sharing a heartbreaking message to her dad that never came true.

She said: “Dad, 2023 baby, here we come.”

In tribute to Elle, Tim later wore a Fleetwood Mac T-shirt to a Merseyside Police press conference held in a bid for people to come forward to help catch her killers. Speaking to the ECHO following the jury verdict in the murder trial last week, Tim said he has set up a foundation in Elle’s name.

He added that it was vital that "something positive" emerged from the devastation of last Christmas. He said: "It has to. And it leaves a legacy then in her name so we can hopefully help people who need it, which is what it’s about.

"She won’t be forgotten then, and that’s what’s important to me, that she’s never forgotten. So if that’s one way we can do it then we’ll do it.”
