Ella Toone explains why she is staying at Manchester United after signing new contract

England star Ella Toone has penned a new deal with Manchester United that will see her stay at the club until 2026.

The attacking midfielder joined United from Manchester City in 2018, helping the Red Devils secure promotion to the Women's Super League in her first season at Leigh Sports Village. Since then, Toone has gone on to become the club's all-time leading goal scorer, with 43 goals in 110 appearances.

The 23-year-old played also played an integral role in England's Euros triumph, netting the opening goal in the Lionesses 2-1 final victory over Germany in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley. She's now committed her future to United until the end of the 2025/26 season, expressing her pride at the opportunity to continue represent her childhood club.

"I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Manchester United," Toone told manutd.com. "The club’s ambitions really match mine and there’s nowhere better for me to learn.

"To play for my childhood club I support is really special and I’ll never get tired of pulling on the Red shirt. To now be able to do that for even longer is a proud moment for me and my family."

United boss Marc Skinner and the club's new Head of Women's Football, Polly Bancroft, hailed Toone's contract extension as an example of the club's appetite for success.

"Ella’s long-term commitment to Manchester United is yet more proof of the club’s continued investment in the future success of this team," Skinner said. "Ella has always been and remains a key member of our squad on and off the field, and we are delighted she will continue to wear our famous colours with pride for years to come."

Bancroft added: "Ella epitomises everything Manchester United stands for, and her new long-term contract reflects the club’s ambition of continued growth and success, with a role model of her quality at the centre."

Toone has already made a bright start to the season, scoring twice and registering two assists to help United win five of their opening six WSL games. The 23-year old was called up to Sarina Wiegman's latest England squad and could feature for the Lionesses when they take on Japan in Murcia on Friday.
