Elizabeth Vale man charged over alleged fake Xanax pills, after three teens hospitalised

Police say the drugs were stamped with the word 'Xanax' but actually contained a variety of illicit substances. (Supplied: SA Police)

An 18-year-old is due to appear in an Adelaide court today over allegedly supplying drugs that put three teenagers in hospital.

Police said two teenage boys and a teenage girl all needed urgent medical attention after ingesting tablets.

Police began an investigation into the source of the drugs and yesterday seized over 1,400 tablets from an Elizabeth Vale home in Adelaide's north.

Police said the drugs were marked as Xanax, but actually contained a variety of illicit substances, posing a risk to the community "who would be unaware of what they are consuming".

Xanax is a brand of prescription medication commonly used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

Police said some of the tablets were packaged in small bags, indicating they were ready for supply.

The Elizabeth Vale man was arrested and charged with supplying a controlled drug to a child and trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
