A 61-year-old Elizabeth Line worker has died after being attacked at an east London station.
The railway worker was attacked at Ilford Station shortly before 9pm on Wednesday and was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries.
On Saturday, officers said he had since sadly died.
The RMT union said he was one of their members, and that he had been a Customer Experience Assistant for MTREL, which runs the Elizabeth Line.
General secretary Mick Lynch said: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our member, who died following an attack while at work.
"The whole union sends its condolences to their family, friends and colleagues at this awful time and everyone's thoughts at RMT are with them.
"We will keep a close eye on legal proceedings and will comment further in due course when it is appropriate."
Ayodele Jamgbadi, of Kingston Road, Ilford, was arrested and charged with Section 18 GBH, affray and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon in a private place following the attack.
Police said following the victim’s death, detectives will make an application to amend the indictment.
The 28-year-old appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was remanded in custody and will next appear at Inner London Crown Court on January 7, 2025.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell, of the British Transport Police, said: “We have specialist family liaison officers supporting the victim’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.
“I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and a 28 year old man has now been charged and remanded in connection. We are not seeking anyone else.”
