Elizabeth Hurley responds to Shane Warne's 'tragic' death in throwback to happier times

Elizabeth Hurley has responded to the news of her former fiancé Shane Warne's shock death.

The cricketing legend died from a suspected heart attack on Friday after enjoying a lads' holiday to Thailand with a group of friends.

Celebrity pals, admirers and sports fans rushed to pay tribute to the Aussie, who was renowned for his headline-grabbing antics both on and off the pitch..

Model and actress Liz, who enjoyed a three year whirlwind romance with the spin-bowler, has now joined those paying their respects.

It came as her close friend Elton John took to Instagram to share beaming photo of him posed up beside the former couple.

Before sharing a statement, a heartbroken Liz took the time to like Elton's photo of her together with Shane in happier times.

On Saturday, the Austin Powers actress took to her own Instagram page to share some of her favourite pictures of her time with the cricketer.

In a short but sweet message, Liz wrote: "I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever. RIP my beloved Lionheart."

Her friend Elton John, who grew close to the sportsman through his friendship with Liz, said Friday was a 'tragic day for Australian cricket', as he also referenced the death of Rod Marsh, who died this week at the age of 74.

"Two legends passing is heartbreaking. I knew them both and played cricket with Rod in Perth. A very special and fearless man.

"Shane was a magical bowler and such huge fun. They were both Australians through and through, which made them so endearing.

"My sympathies to their families and loved ones."

Liz was first introduced to Shane at the races in July 2010 shortly after her split from husband Arun Nayar.

Things moved quickly for the fun-loving pair with Shane getting down on one knee on board a luxury yacht in the Med a year later.

After being pictured on looking very loved up on a series of glamorous dates around the world, the couple shocked fans by announcing they had gone their separate ways ahead of their highly-anticipated showbiz wedding.

Shedding light on the break-up, Shane said he harboured no ill feeling to Liz.

"When we were together we both had a great time. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

'It wasn't something that she or I did wrong, it just fizzled out.

"We're still great friends, we still stay in touch, we're good for each other and our kids get along great," he explained.

The cricket icon also suggested that their clashing schedules had driven a wedge between them

"When we first met, she was basically not doing anything. She was a farmer.

"And I had retired from international cricket. But then Elizabeth went back to work, shooting movies and TV series. I was playing cricket and poker."

On Friday the world of cricket was left reeling when news emerged that Shane had died at the age of 52.

The news was confirmed by his management company who released a brief statement to reporters.
