Elizabeth Banks: 'We need more movies like Charlie's Angels'

You might have noticed a familiar poster of three beautiful women posed in a triad has been popping up everywhere lately.

And anyone with even a nebulous amount of pop culture knowledge knows exactly what that means - the Charlie's Angels are back.

The last time the franchise was rebooted was in 2000, starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu (though that's if you discount an extremely short-lived TV reboot in 2011 starring Minka Kelly).

The clever 2000 version was followed by a less clever sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (although Demi Moore's bikini scene was instantly iconic). The film showed that women can be strong, powerful and kick butt without getting a single hair out of place - provided they have a Hollywood budget.

The girl power aspect plays out heavily in the 2019 reboot which is directed, written and starring Elizabeth Banks as the first female Bosley.

"We are really proud of this movie. We had a great time making it," Elizabeth Banks told the crowd at a recent early screening of the film hosted by influencer Natalie Zfat. "We hope you feel that spirit when you see it we hope that you're inspired by it and that you tell the world you like it no matter what. We need more movies like this," Banks said.

Banks said she wanted to work on a film like this because of the action (and unlike previous angels these ladies are toting guns) and the fact that viewers are guaranteed an entertaining romp. She was accompanied by her castmates and fellow angels Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.

Scott, who also stars in Aladdin, told the audience, "I watched it with an audience yesterday and they were cracking up man. I mean you're [Banks] a comedy actress and you're directing so you've got the comic chops and transferred that on to us hopefully." She added, "Everything that Liz said. We loved making this movie. It's about women coming together and having fun." Balinksa chimed in, "I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did making it."

Charlie's Angels hits theaters on November 15.
